Wheatacres win back to back titles

Murray and Emily Stirling receive the Jason Goodwin Memorial Shield from Robin and Terry Goodwin

Monday 1st September 2025

Emily and Murray Stirling, Wheatacres have won back to back champion pen at the Spring Lamb Show to take home the Jason Goodwin Memorial Shield. It's the third time Wheatacres appear on the shield. Although Emily's late father Richard would always enter, their name didn’t appear on the shield until 2022 after Richard’s death. As humble as ever, Emily said it was "nice to win, but it could have gone any way."

Speaking on behalf of the judges Andrew Jackson, Thomas Foods International said “lamb got a little bit dear, which was lovely with my farmer’s hat on, but everything has a limit, and it couldn’t be sold on the world stage at that level. It’s come back to a level where we can start marketing it again. We have a very good product but, to compete with other proteins the price has to be comparable’, he said

He went on to say the winning pen had “a lovely bum crutch, which is highly important to avoid losing yield when they are processed”, adding that the choice of the winning pen was unanimous.

He concluded by congratulating all who competed and predicted “good prices for the next few years and just rewards for anyone who has stuck with lambs.”
