Cracker western season reflected in quality

A cracker season saw both buyers and vendors rewarded with western producers continuing to choose Tamworth as their preferred selling centre and topping the market in the process. Purtle Plevey kicked off the sale with an outstanding draft of Angus steers sold on account the Sing family, JARS Trading, Moree selling to $1900 to top the category.
Agent, Michael Purtle said there was some very good quality on offer, with not many secondary cattle, and a lot of Angus steers making from $1250 to the top end. Heifers topped the market at $1650, which he said was very strong, reflecting weight and quality, but a lot of shopping from “$1350-$1550.”
Cows and calves stronger were stronger “given the season out west with Milling and Stuart, Dubbo coming across and buying a fair wedge of the Elders store cows and calves”, sold on account Cobram. The lead pen of 5-8 yr old cows sold to $2500 with Michael saying that reflected fair money on the day. The best of the cows and calves sold to $2875 forAngus cows back in calf to Speckle Park bulls sold by Davidson Cameron. Elders topped the heifers and calves with excellent quality heifers and calves selling to $2875.
Volume vendors including Cobram farms who sold 656 head through Elders, including 107 Millah Murrah and Hazeldean blood cows and calves and just under two hundred, 6-8 month old Hazeldean and Millah Murrah blood weaners. The cows and calves sold averaged $2290/head, the weaner steers averaged $1175/head and the weaner heifers averaged $1060/head.
J & E Nalder, “Cudgewa” Coonamble sold 86 outstanding quality, Hazeldean and Kidman blood mixed sex; LAHJAS sold 229 head with 122 heifers averaging $1325/head and 76 steers averaging $1480/head; Brookvale Partnership sold 153 head through PPA; and Oakley Holdings sold 99 mixed sex Angus, Angus x and Charolais x weaners.
